Costa de la Luz Information

The Costa de la Luz, (Coast of Light), comprises over 300 km of coastline, situated in the South West of Spain by the Atlantic Coast. It runs from the Portuguese border through to Gibraltar, covering such areas as Ayamonte, Nuevo Portil, Isla Christina, Punta Umbria, Sanlucar, Chiclana, Huelva, Jerez, Cadiz, Conil Vejer, Zahara and Tarifa.

Costa del La Luz is renowned for its natural beauty with several nature reserves including the Donana National Park. Covering 239 square miles Donana is home to a very diverse selection of wildlife & wildfowl. To protect this environment & keep it intact visitors are only able to take a twice daily, guided tour.

Many of the beaches are completely unspoilt and backed by sand dunes and pine trees. These long sandy beaches are host to a variety of different birds including Griffin Vultures and Eagles.

The thriving port of Ayamonte on the river Guadiana is know as the "Gateway to Spain". Running along the coast from Ayamonte are several fishing ports including Isla Christina and the agricultural town of Lepe. Visit the Cape of Trafalgar between Canos de Meca and Conil, scene of the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
